All conflict is damaging and costly, and its costs are not purely monetary. Agile Conflict Management helps to cut conflict costs. There are 3 phases in Agile Conflict Management:
- Conflict Prevention – requires appropriate use of Strategies, Structures, Systems and Skills:
- Strategies – having a plan that enables you to identify risks early so they can be avoided.
- Structures – having somewhere to go (eg: regular meetings) where you can do things to help prevent conflicts from arising.
- Systems – established ways of doing things that help to minimise the risk of conflicts developing.
- Skills – developed abilities in key individuals to solve problems and prevent problems developing into conflicts.
- Conflict Management – requires effective use of appropriate Structures, Systems and Skills:
- Structures – having somewhere to go to work on your conflict.
- Systems – established ways of doing things (rules, policies, procedures etc.) to defuse and manage conflicts.
- Skills – developed abilities in key individuals that help to contain and defuse conflicts.
- Conflict Resolution – the process of developing solutions and delivering outcomes for all issues in dispute, including relationship issues, in addition to financial settlements. Conflict Resolution requires effective use of appropriate Strategies, Structures, Systems and Skills:
- Strategies – a philosophy of holistic and party/issue-responsive conflict resolution.
- Structures – having somewhere to go to work on your conflict, both informally and formally.
- Systems – proven range of conflict management processes that can be tailored to party’s needs.
- Skills – formal and informal conflict management and conflict resolution skills.
